Better We, Better Week- February 26, 2024: The Health Benefits of Kindness

by Lori Beth Rodrigues

Great Morning Team,

Lately, I have been on the hunt for tools and resources to improve my overall health and wellness. We talk about wellness often, and now we even have a page dedicated to it here in our blog. Aside from all the books, essential oils, exercise, and more that exist to help us all, did you know that the act of simply being kind to others improves our own overall health? Sure, I know I feel good when I give in some way to others, whether it be random acts of kindness, helping someone in need, or even teaching a Pokémon class to kids of all ages. What I didn’t know is that it has been scientifically proven that there are actual health benefits we can all receive from embracing this behavior into our daily lives. For example, Serotonin increases, providing us the ability to experience calm, and inner peace, combating anxiety and depression. Additionally, kindness to others promotes the healing of physical wounds, reduces inflammation, strengthens our heart, and can increase our lifespan as well! Who knew?!

Check out this short 2 minute, 15 second video “The Science of Kindness” by The Random Acts of Kindness Foundation enclosed.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O9UByLyOjBM (BTW- you can also subscribe for their daily inspiring “Daily Dose of Kindness”. I have done so for a year now, and it provides a nice spark to a positive mindset for the day! 😊) As a bonus, I have also included a link to a quick 5 minute read of “7 Ways Kindness Improves Your Health” published by Intermountain Health for your your consideration as well. https://intermountainhealthcare.org/blogs/7-ways-kindness-improves-your-health .

Last but certainly not least, speaking of kindness, which sparks happiness, I would be remiss if I did not share that tomorrow, February 27th is National Pokémon Day! (Yes, my happy place! 😊) There are incredible local, and national events taking place worldwide, including Pikachu arriving at the Empire State Building in NYC… (totally serious!)

On that note, wishing you health, happiness, many Pokémon in your travels, and of course, a Better We, Better Week! 😊

Thanks,

Lori Beth
