Great Morning Team,
Happy April, and Happy Spring! Here’s to the warmer weather, blue skies, and blooming flowers everywhere! 😊 For me, Spring always seems to create a sense of renewal and a time to re-energize and recuperate. As the season begins, I am healing, as I just returned from a brief leave to undergo major surgery. Beyond a very long two weeks, I have learned some valuable lessons from this entire experience:
- Jell-O is seriously overrated.
- Reframing is hard, but it can help create a positive mindset if you work at it consistently.
- As positive of a person as I am, prior to my procedure, I found visualizing the positive outcomes in the end incredibly difficult. (Post-op this was much easier to do!)
- Fear is truly debilitating if we allow it to consume us.
- A bad day is seldom a bad day, but rather a good day with some “bad moments” in it.
- There is kindness everywhere, and it doesn’t take much to find it. 😊
On that last point, I have realized the true impact that community and friendships can have. The spirit, energy and empathy of others matter a great deal, especially in times of great challenge and suffering. For me, these friendships made a significant difference for me, where some special people in my life helped me to harness my courage in the days leading up to my surgery, and then aided with their support and encouragement in the steps I am still taking each day to heal. It’s no wonder why our community of Home is vital to the existence and progression of our Growth Culture.
What is also true is the power of resilience from within. Building our resilience over time takes work but can make all the difference, enabling us to push through the tough challenges in our lives, adapting and even thriving in the face of adversity.
I recently came across a post from Adam Grant, Author and Professor at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania who shared:
“Resilience is not about being invulnerable to hardship. It’s about accepting adversity as part of life. Some struggles are challenges to conquer. Others are weights to carry. Strength doesn’t come from avoiding setbacks. It comes from refusing to be defined by suffering.”
Enclosed is an article from the American Psychological Association titled, “Building Your Resilience”, which shares the meaning of resilience, how it can provide personal profound growth, and how you can build this for yourself, by building connections, fostering wellness, finding purpose embracing healthy thoughts, and seeking help. On a final note, I am happy and grateful to be back. Each day gets better for sure! Onward! 😊
Wishing you all a Better We, Better Week! 😊
