Better We, Better Week, July 15, 2024: AI + HI = ROI

Great Morning Team!
While the title above might look like alphabet soup, I can assure you it is not. It is a distinct, intentional formula and the primary topic of conversation now in the industry of Human Resources globally. AI (Artificial Intelligence) + HI (Human Intelligence) = ROI. AI: Artificial Intelligence: You may have tinkered a bit with it, utilizing such tools as Chat GPT, Gemini, Co-Pilot and even tools like Grammarly and recording tools like we all see in our Team’s meetings now…Yes, it’s all powered by AI.
AI has become a double-edged sword in many ways. It’s GREAT for efficiency, saving us time with everything from drafting personalized emails, summarizing notes, assisting us with complex formulas, even creating Power Point presentations, and of course, the occasional ghost story. 😊 While all of this is AMAZING, the data we receive from this exciting technology is obtained from many sources, and then recycled, which can lead to problems with accuracy, and even in some cases, can create bias. In fact, every time we use a free version of Chat GPT, the data we provide for prompts is no longer private and is now out there on the internet for everyone to see and use to their advantage. Even more concerning, we do not yet have laws or legislation created to safeguard users, both adults and children, protecting their privacy and personal information. The good news is there are many advocacy groups ready and willing to meet on Capitol Hill to discuss how to create safety, and in addition, prevent unintended adverse impact.
So, what’s this AI + HI = ROI formula about? Well, the reality is AI cannot stand well on its own without Human Intelligence in the equation to create the ROI we desire. Meaning, the outcomes of AI technology are only as good as the humans who are driving it. And we need to be able to drive it well, so we can lead versus lag in this competitive world, creating and innovating better and faster. Human input ensures we manage this technology carefully. We take the blueprint or the ideas it produces, and we adjust it to serve our purposes. We become mindful that it is a tool to help us. Human Intelligence in this equation also begins with a growth mindset. We can either choose to embrace this innovative technology and the new skills we will need to acquire, or we can allow it to disrupt us. (Guess which way we are going? 😊)
More GREAT news: Behind the scenes, we, as an organization, are preparing well! 😊 I had some terrific conversations with both Chris Cucuzza, Sr. Vice President, Technology & Operations, and Doug Cox, Vice President, Innovations & Insights last week, who are both heavily involved in readying E&I for the future! At this time, Chris and his team are piloting paid versions of Chat GPT and Microsoft Co-Pilot, which could evolve into an enterprise-wide model with a proprietary license that would keep all our data private. Doug is exploring several different AI platforms, learning which would work best for E&I to accelerate our competitive advantage! Additionally, in one of his most recent experiments using AI in conjunction with some of our internal tools, he discovered the rate of efficiency, and time saved increased by 92%. Imagine if technology could save you this much time? Imagine how much more focused strategically we could all be! Additionally, Doug is looking to create training programs for Beginners and Intermediate users to help us learn AI as well.
Change is coming, and now is the time for us to be open minded and have the courage to explore and embrace AI so we are ready to lead the way by building greater efficiencies with this technology, carefully and effectively! 😊
