Great Day Team,
If you have ever found yourself swimming in a sea of ambiguity, whether work related or in your personal life, you are not alone. For me, I detest ambiguity. As a planner and an organizer by nature, it is beyond uncomfortable to not have a clear road map. The struggle with ambiguity is different for everyone. For example, I find it far easier when it happens at work. I know I have a great team and amazing people around me that collaborate well, and time and time again, we have enough psychological safety with each other that we can wrestle with an issue and eventually come to a conclusion with the outcome of a good plan. However, in my personal world, that’s where it can get messy. It is tough to rely on people who may not necessarily embrace the same level of priority and therefore may not provide timely and clear answers or expectations, creating ambiguity. This is especially frustrating when the stakes are high, for example, trying to understand a clear plan and next steps in remedying or improving personal health.
Much to my surprise, I have learned though this article, “Why Dealing With Ambiguity Is The Skill We Desperately Need,” written by Ann Kowal Smith, former contributing author of Forbes, and CEO & founder of Reflection Point, is that there are strategies that can help you build the skills of a growth mindset, inviting curiosity and patience to manage this, whether your challenge with ambiguity is personal, professional or both.
