Better We, Better Week: Nine Words That Might Change Your Perspective

Great Morning Team,

Last Saturday, my son, Adam and I attended an Open House for one of the local colleges. When we arrived at the library as part of our tour, I noticed on one of the main desks there was a small placard that stood prominently at the center with the statement:

“A Goal Without a Plan Is Just a Wish”

This quote was written by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, author of the book “The Little Prince.” Most inspirational quotes I have read in the past have certainly been thought-provoking; however, this one truly resonated for me. Perhaps it’s because its application is universal. It can be applied to both personal and professional circumstances. Perhaps it’s because it leads to questions- deep questions and reflection. We all aspire to accomplish things in life that will create happiness, bring us peace and/or make us better in some way. However, how many of us pause to think about creating a plan to achieve the goal? And then there’s the sacrifice. What discomfort are we each willing to go through to succeed and accomplish the goal? Throughout the years, I have discovered time and time again that anything worth doing is usually never easy. It requires time, humility and patience. In the end, I have also discovered that the rewards are well-worth it.  

Can we control every outcome and every circumstance? No, of course not. Setting a goal with a plan in place can get us closer to the result that we want, even if in the end, the result is not completely perfect. Every need or want may begin as a wish, but this 9-word quote made me stop and think differently about creating a path to success of how my wishes can become realized.
