Hi Team!
I hope you are all starting the week off safe and sound given the snowy blizzard that many of us experienced! Despite the dig out and clean up ahead, I took some time yesterday, to enjoy watching the snow fall quietly. I love how an occasional event like this propels me to slow my mind down and gently and peacefully reflect on life, both personally and professionally. I am a huge fan of nature, (although my allergies would not agree) and I enjoy the distinct 4 seasons that living in NY offers. Nature plays a huge role in Wellness, and it is part of the 6 pillars of development that our Unbeatable Mind coaches have discussed in the past.
In the “Groove” of my reflection, I thought about reflection itself and how we could all use more of it. Often, it can be a challenge to find time in our fast-paced day to day to carve time to pause and process what has happened versus what is happening next. What would the impact be if we could each take a few moments throughout our day (even the 5 minutes we have in-between meetings) to practice deepening our thinking, questioning and noticing, leading with curiosity to ask ourselves:
- “What surprised me?”
- “What challenged me?”
- “What lessons learned do I want to take with me into my next challenge?”
Dr. Craig Mertler, PH. D, Professor of Action Research & Quantitative Methods at Barry University in Miami shares in his Ted Talk how we can empower ourselves by taking ownership of our own learning and growth through the power of reflection. (Click here to watch the video.)
Sometimes reflection is a question you sit with, sometimes it’s a conversation with a colleague, and sometimes it’s a few minutes of stillness before moving forward. Whatever way you choose to reflect, consider creating space to do so every day this week. If you are willing, we would love for you to share how you reflected and the impact it had on your day-to-day life so we can learn from each other.
Wishing you all a Better We, Better Week! 😊
Lori Beth
